Cosmetics & Personal Care

It’s time to innovate – in-cosmetics Korea opens next week!

How do I develop my formulation skills and what new technologies will help me create unique new beauty concepts? These are two questions every cosmetic chemist in Korea should be asking themselves as brands fight it out for market share in the hyper competitive global personal care industry. Fortunately, in-cosmetics Korea is now just a week away, providing R&D professionals with an invaluable experience that will enable them to capitalize on the trends shaping the sector over the coming years.

The formula for success
The K-beauty sector leads the way in terms of technological advancements and creativity. To help it firmly establish its presence at the heart of the personal care industry, this year’s event will feature an exclusive day dedicated to enhancing formulators’ expertise. The in-cosmetics Group’s first ever Formulation Day – running on 13 June – will impart invaluable technical information, practical advice and consumer insights, enabling the region’s cosmetic chemists to establish a competitive advantage over their international colleagues.

In addition to receiving a wealth of benefits from attending exclusive sessions run by product development experts, each attendee will receive a Formulation Booklet that features 30 brand new formulations from 17 international suppliers – including AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry Pte, Ashland, Grant Industries, Lucas Meyer Cosmetics and Seppic Asia.

Cosmetic chemists are also invited to attend the coveted Formulation Awards to identify new concepts and ingredients, as well as networking with hundreds of industry peers. Judges have pinpointed 16 formulations – developed by suppliers’ R&D teams – that are on-trend and are stand-out innovations. A full shortlist is available here.

A showcase of on-trend ingredients
From 13-15 June, R&D professionals will be able to identify new ingredients and technologies from more than 250 of the world’s leading suppliers. Carefully curated by three leading beauty experts, to help navigate the show floor, in-cosmetics will feature three product trails that highlight innovations in anti-pollution, encapsulation and preservatives.

Among the 11 ingredients on the anti-pollution trail will be Mibelle’s award-winning Moss Cell Tec that taps into the natural resilience of moss to maintain cell nucleus health; CoSeedBiopharm’s Dust Smart Solution that inhibits inflammation to prevent ageing signs; and bitop’s Ectoin which harnesses the power of natural extremophiles to prevent cell damage.

in-cosmetics Korea’s trails will also enable R&D teams to efficiently identify novel ways of encapsulating formulations. Among those selected are Solabia Group’s SOLAPEARLS® Active Color®  – a 3D-based next-generation capsule that is applied mainly for anti-pollution and anti-ageing purposes; Evonik’s ‘Delivery Systems’ customised capsule solution that can be utilised for various purposes, including anti-pollution, anti-ageing and anti-wrinkle; and Biogenics’ ‘Oil Capsule’ that prevents the oxidation of oil and can be utilised effectively in anti-ageing and anti-wrinkle areas.

The third trail – preservatives – puts the spotlight on 10 innovations that will ensure the viability of a formulation. Shin Seung Hichem Co will present Shines-115P, a brand new emulsifier that provides antimicrobial activity and can be used as the sole emulsifier in oil-in-water emulsions, while Lonza’s team will showcase Geogard Ultra – a COSMOS and NATRUE-certified, halal and vegan compliant preservative that offers broad antimicrobial performance and complementary moisturisation benefits.

A full list of all products on show in the three trails can be found here.

Sarah Gibson, exhibition director of in-cosmetics Korea, commented: “This year’s event has been developed with one objective in mind – to help R&D teams further cement Korea’s position as the capital of the beauty industry. Our new Formulation Day will inspire cosmetic chemists, helping them create new ideas and craft more effective formulations, while the suppliers on show will provide R&D teams with the most efficient way to identify and source new ingredients.”
