JM win prestigious CIA Company of the Year Award 2018

Johnson Matthey, a leader in science that makes the world cleaner and healthier, has scooped the prestigious Company of the Year Award at the Chemical Industries Association Awards 2018.

Up against Aesica Pharmaceuticals, BASF Alfreton site and Essar Oil UK, Johnson Matthey was selected as the most outstanding CIA member company, which had demonstrated business growth and a sustained contribution to the UK economy. The award is considered to be the pinnacle award of the year for the UK chemical industry.

The judges were impressed with Johnson Matthey’s successful track record of scientific innovation. They also cited commitment to investment in the UK, our extensive programme of scientific collaborations and recent developments in next generation battery technologies to enable cleaner transportation as reasons for awarding the speciality chemicals company.

Robert MacLeod, Chief Executive of Johnson Matthey commented, “We’ve been leaders in our field for more than 200 years, applying unrivalled scientific expertise to enable cleaner air, improved health and the more efficient use of our planet’s natural resources.  We recruited our first R&D scientist 100 years ago this year and have continued to use science to create innovative products since then.”

Johnson Matthey currently employs 4,000 people in the UK, based at 17 site locations.

“We were founded in the UK in 1817, and we proudly celebrated our bicentenary last year. Our staff are the reason behind our success; we couldn’t have achieved this accolade without them,” MacLeod added.

Johnson Matthey’s people and operations around the UK were also recognised at the event. The company was also a finalist in five other categories on the night including Young Ambassador of the Year.
