No single market without transport, say European associations

On 27 April a coalition of 45 European associations representing the transport sector and shippers, including Cefic, have launched the Ljubljana Declaration calling on EU decision-makers to renew their support for financing sustainable transport projects. Recognising there can be no Single Market without transport and that transport is an enabler of economic growth and jobs, the signatories laid out the following conditions necessary for realising the EU ambition of creating a clean, safe and well-working transport system for all:

  • Increase the EU budget for the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to facilitate the completion of the core transport network, requiring €500 billion between 2021 and 2030 ;
  • Invest in  better and more innovative transport;
  • Continue providing grants as the conventional tool for funding transport projects on the TEN-T (Trans-European Transport) core and comprehensive networks.

The declaration was handed to EU Budget and Human Resources Commissioner Günther Oettinger during the TEN-T Days in Ljubljana, Slovenia, held between 25 and 27 April.
